Suzuki Jimny Nomade (2025): Five-door debuts in Japan

Because of the emission limits that have been in force since 2025, the Suzuki Jimny has completely said goodbye to Europe. In the rest of the world, however, it continues to be sold. Also in a five-door version. After its debut in India in 2023, the small SUV with rear doors has now also landed in Japan.

The Suzuki Jimny Nomade retains its boxy design that made it so popular, but with five doors, it's understandably a few inches longer than its three-door counterpart. This also offers more space in the interior.

The five-door model has also been seen as a visually pimped version at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. We don't know whether the Jimny Nomad will come to Europe. A hybrid drive seems inevitable for this. However, this does not yet exist.

Small but mighty!

The Jimny Nomade measures 3.89 metres with an extended wheelbase (Jimny three-door: 3.78 metres) to create more space and space for the two rear doors. Although they are proportionately smaller than the front rows, they are sufficient for convenient access to the second row.

Otherwise, everything remains the same with the Jimny Nomade as with the three-door model. The vertical lines only seem unusually stretched. Iconic details such as the plastic mudguards and the circular headlights are retained – a robust off-road look.

At the moment, there are no new pictures of the interior of the Suzuki Jimny Nomade for the Japanese premiere. Apart from the additional space, however, there are unlikely to be any major innovations either. We were already able to inspect the interior at the premiere in India.

Here was the familiar image of a central infotainment screen, analogue instruments and physical controls for the air conditioning system.

Let's take a look at the drive: The Suzuki Jimny Nomade also comes with all-wheel drive, of course. It is coupled with the equally familiar 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine and 105 hp. You can choose between manual and automatic transmissions. This is exactly the crux of the matter, which is why the three-door Jimny had to flee Europe.

Theoretically, Suzuki would have a 1.2-liter mild hybrid with 83 hp on the shelf, which is combined with all-wheel drive in the Swift 4x4. A rather weak-chested alternative for an industrious off-roader, but at least one for the possible return of the Jimny to Europe. In the end, however, it is only pure speculation.
